Pine house
The starting point of this unique villa was to create a sustainable, discrete design integrated in the natural environment. The sustainable house is oriented towards the south, this is where the living- and bedrooms are situated. A glass facade, stretching from roof to floor, demarcates the living areas. The glass facade, without disruptions such as windows or outdoor sun blinds, reflects the blueness of the pool and the green from the trees and plants. A climatologically interesting and sustainable situation is created through the orientation towards the south and by placing a large part of the house into the mountain slope. The south side receives large amounts of sunlight and warmth, while the 'subterranean' part of the house contains cold air.
The scale of the house is moderated through the understanding of the day area as a base emerging from the marble stone which paves part of the plot. The substantially square plan is designed to unite the program in a compact way.
The duality between what emerges and what is deposited is not the only one in the project, since in order to protect itself from the surrounding architectures, the volume of the building is designed to be as opaque as possible to the exterior and simultaneously as open to the landscape as possible.
The piece, of metallic and horizontal nature, produces the effect of having just one storey. With its proportions and materiality it both contrasts and blends with the tall trees of its environment.
